Jennifer A., Member of the Brain-Body Parenting Collective

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who is Dr. Mona?

Mona Delahooke, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist with more than 30 years of experience caring for children and their families.

Dr. Mona holds the highest level of endorsement in the field of infant and toddler mental health in California, as a Reflective Practice Mentor (RPM). She is a frequent speaker, trainer, and consultant to parents, organizations, schools, and public agencies. Dr. Mona has dedicated her career to promoting compassionate, relationship-based neurodevelopmental interventions for children with developmental, behavioral, emotional, and learning differences.

She is the author of the award-winning books Beyond Behaviors: Using Brain Science and Compassion to Understand and Solve Children’s Behavioral Challenges and Brain-Body Parenting: How to Stop Managing Behaviors and Start Raising Joyful, Resilient Kids.

Dr. Mona lives in the Los Angeles area of California with her husband, Scott, and loves to hang out with her grown daughters and play with her toddler granddaughter.

  • Why was the Brain-Body Parenting Collective founded?

Early in her career, Dr. Mona came to realize the limitations of her mental health training when she couldn’t find appropriate, effective solutions to alleviate the distress of her own daughter, who had been born prematurely.

Her search for better options led her to pursue additional training as an infant and toddler specialist. In the process, she discovered the significance of the whole body, the brain-body connection, and the autonomic nervous system to understanding and supporting children.

She now has set out to make it easier for parents to understand the science behind it all and how to incorporate it into their parenting journey.

  • What does it mean to look Beyond Behaviors?

Countless parents have embraced Dr. Mona’s best-selling book, Beyond Behaviors, which explains that shifting from securing compliance to supporting children’s unspoken, physiological needs can unlock a deeper understanding of behavior and promote more harmonious, joyful family dynamics.
